Argostoli is the capital and main town of Kefalonia, located on the island’s western coast. It is a lively and welcoming destination with a long waterfront, attractive squares, local shops, cafés and excellent restaurants. One of the best ways to experience Argostoli is to walk along the harbour and the pedestrian Lithostroto shopping street. Visitors can enjoy coffee, traditional food, shopping and the relaxed everyday atmosphere of the town. The waterfront is also known for the Caretta caretta sea turtles, which are often seen swimming near the fishing boats, especially during the morning. Visitors should admire them from a respectful distance and avoid feeding or disturbing them. Popular attractions include the De Bosset Bridge, the Koutavos Lagoon, the Archaeological Museum and the nearby Katavothres area. Argostoli is also close to Makris Gialos, Platis Gialos and several other beautiful beaches. Thanks to its central location, Argostoli is an excellent base for exploring Kefalonia. The town is easily accessible from Kefalonia Airport and can be reached by rental car or private transfer from any part of the island.
